“Wednesday Night Service”

In the Gospel according to Matthew, Jesus said that the “King” will say at the Day of Judgment, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matt. 24:40) He also said in 5:16 “…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” The message has been read, the sermons shared and the challenge put forth. Now, let us serve.

Beginning on Wednesday evening, September 26th, the Wednesday evening programming at Mt. Hawley Community Church will change. Under the heading WEDNESDAY NIGHT SERVICE, groups of all ages will go into the Peoria community and serve. The design is simple: there will be opportunities for ministry and you can choose which fits you best. Better still, you can respond to God’s leading to an area where you will be used for real life ministry. In a world filled with reality shows, this is real Christ like ministry…real service.

The existing facilities that have invited us to serve include Rose Garden Care Center, Rose Wood Care Center, South Side Mission, Peoria Rescue Mission and Great Oaks. There will be a variety of ways in which you may participate. Some of the opportunities include:

Serving dinner at Peoria Rescue Mission

Sharing dessert with families at South Side Mission

Helping with birthday parties at South Side Mission, Peoria Rescue Mission, Rose Garden and Rose Wood Care Centers.

Sorting donations of food or clothing at Peoria Rescue Mission or Great Oaks.

Pick up and delivery of food for Heart of Illinois Harvest

The above opportunities for service are just the beginning. No matter the place where you are serving, you will begin to understand that you are being used in real ministry. A smile returned to you by a person that cannot say your name; a handshake from someone that does not want to let go; a word of “thank you” from a person for whom you have done the simplest thing allows you to understand that God is working through you.

Please pray about where God will place you in this service. There is a place for each person in this church. Families will minister alongside youth and seniors. God will shine through each of you and the Lord will be praised.

Please attend the Wednesday evenings of September 5th, 12th and 19th as we make final preparations. September 19th will be our huddle and the 26th the Kickoff for WEDNESDAY NIGHT SERVICE.  If you have any questions please call me at 692-3588.

In his grace, mercy and service.
